Khalil Gibran

Biographical info

Kahlil Gibran (1883 – 1931), poet, artist, philosopher, was born in the town of Bsharri in modern-day Lebanon. He emigrated to the USA as a child, and as a young man studied art and began his literary career. He met and was influenced by various important figures of the early 20th century, including Jung and Keats.

Gibran was published widely in both Arabic and English. His writings mainly deal with spiritual topics, especially spiritual love, and he is best known for The Prophet. Gibran died in New York City, but was buried in Bsharri. Today Kahlil Gibran is considered to be the third most-widely read poet in history, after Shakespeare and Lao-Tzu, and is undoubtedly one of the most quoted.
